Once Upon a Time
Once Upon a Time
Have you ever been confused or ‘turned off’ by the God of the Old Testament? This book will help you to see through those first impression and discover a loving and caring Creator who takes care of those he loves and especially those who have learnt to recognise, trust and love as faithful creations.
Fr Aelred joined the community at Prinknash Abbey in Gloucestershire after a short clerical career preceded by National Service chiefly in North Africa. By contrast, Sr Catherine entered the Dominican sisters in Stroud at the tender age of 17. After a degree at Bristol university, she teamed up with Fr Aelred in youth ministry as well as teaching at the nearby Marling school (commuting by motorbike) and a period as head teacher at the Dominican Convent school, Stroud.
They each tutored for distance learning degree courses at Maryvale Institute, Birmingham and together developed ‘Focus’, a course of Scripture lectures for adults, initially given in the imposing library at Prinknash and later in a nearby church hall. Running for many years they were always popular, learned, interesting and often very amusing. They were delivered together, sometimes as a duologue, sometimes in the characters of the theme and occasionally with audience participation. In retirement they decided to write a book based on some of these lectures and this is the result.
